Kings Dominion 2024

Over spring break, I visited Kings Dominion. I did not know much about this park before I visited it, but it is a very nice park and is now one of my favorites. The entrance is not the newest, but it leads to International Street, a nice main street with lots of themed buildings lining the sides, a large fountain and trees down the middle, and of course, the centerpiece of the park, the Eiffel Tower. This is the icon of the park and is a one-third-scale model of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. If you head straight past the tower, you walk through a forested pathway and end up in Candy Apple Grove. First up is Twisted Timbers. Twisted Timbers is a masterpiece of Rocky Mountain Construction, with tons of great airtime, and a few inversions, including a barrel roll downdrop. This coaster is incredible, and you are constantly flying out of your seat. Racer 75 is a pretty fun PTC racing coaster, and isnt too rough despite its age, although when I rode it only one side was operating. Apple Zapple is a Mack wild mouse coaster that is pretty fun and isn't incredibly painful. To the west, between Candy Apple Grove and International Street, is Old Virginia, which is a more relaxed area, home to Grizzly, a fun wooden coaster, Blue Ridge Tollway, a forested antique car ride, Shenandoah Lumber Company, a log flume, and White Water Canyon, a river rapids. Heading to the other side of International Street, you see Dominator, a large B&M floorless coaster with 5 inversions, a top height of 157 feet, and top speed of 65 mph. Dominator used to operate at Geauga Lake under the same name, until 2007, when the park closed, and Dominator was relocated and reopened at Kings Dominion in 2008. Heading past Dominator, you find Planet Snoopy, where among plenty of children's rides, you find Boo Blasters. Entering the queue, you reach a secluded mansion. Inside, is a spooky Sally shooter dark ride. Further past Planet Snoopy, is Jungle X-pedition, a new area with theming and a story. Jungle X is a very nice area, even though a lot of the area of bordered by temporary wooden walls. This is because behind those walls is where construction for Project 2025 is happening. Project 2025 is speculated to be a B&M launched wing coaster on the former 'Volcano: The Blast Coaster' plot of land. Tumbili is a S&S 4D Free Spin coaster, themed to a monkey temple. Reptilian is a Mack Bobsled coaster themed to reptiles. It is somewhat strange, but is quite a fun coaster. Continuing on, you'll arrive in the "not jungle themed but still part of Jungle X" section. This area first features Backlot Stunt Coaster, a Premier family launched coaster with quite a bit of Hollywood theming and a large burst of flames. Next up is Flight of Fear, a Premier indoor coaster with a strong launch and lots of cool space theming in the queue. Anaconda is a large Arrow Looper, but was closed when I visited the park. It looks like a pretty decent ride, but I'm not too upset for it not being open. Finally, Project 305 is an Intamin Giga coaster, with a top speed of 95 miles per hour, strong, forceful turns, and whippy transitions. Surprisingly, this coaster never seems to have that long of a line. This is the coaster icon of the park, being able to be seen from anywhere in the park, and is one of four Giga coasters in the United States. The first turn is so forceful that many people, including myself, can partially or fully lose vision due to the strength of the forces. This is known as blacking out or greying out. This seems to be the cause as to why it never has too long of the line. Most people would ride this once, maybe twice, and be done. Overall, Kings Dominion is an amazing park with a great coaster lineup and is quite charming.
